Mayor of Newark, New Jersey’s impressive response to marriage equality
After Obama endorsed gay marriage, Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, reposted a video showing his response to a question about marriage equality.
I rejoice in President Obama’s announcement. But, let us all who believe in equality continue to labor in the cause. We still live in a nation where there are hundreds and hundreds of laws that deny gay Americans the same rights and privileges that straight Americans enjoy. And especially here in New Jersey, it is time for us to treat all of our citizens equally under the law and make marriage equality happen.
We love this inclusive ad from JCPenny that depicts a two-mom family. Just in time for Mother’s Day!

White House releases “Progress For The LGBT Community” infographic
The White House just published an inforgraphic that overviews the progress of LGBT Americans. @BarackObama tweeted: “From safer schools to ending #DADT, take a look at three years of progress for LGBT Americans.”
From their post:“Three years ago, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was the law of the land, and the words “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender” appeared nowhere in the federal register.
Today, gay and lesbian men and women can serve their country without hiding who they are. The Obama administration has declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional, and the President is working to make our schools safer for LGBT youth.
As we celebrate three years of progress for LGBT Americans under President Obama — and work toward another four — here’s a look at how far we’ve come since the President took office.”
A Series Of Questions
This ongoing body of work explores the power dynamics inherent in the questions asked of transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and gender-variant people.

While normally TS attempts to bring to you positive examples for our community, we also offer you ways to get involved, make a difference and be a role model yourself. Unfortunately right now we’ve got plenty of work to do for our community. Please take a moment and stop this atrocity from happening. This child needs our support. Click the link above to sign the petition and be part of the difference in this little girl’s life and give hope to each other by demonstrating that none of us are alone. Please reblog if you can.
Perhaps it’s conspicuous that to date few journals have dwelled on the current ethical drama currently undergoing in Berlin, Germany involving an eleven year old child who was born a boy but whom in their own words wishes to re assert themselves as a female. Something that they have felt since they can remember, according to one report earlier this year. That though now may be wishful thinking in the face of a recent court decision that in essence seeks to mandate that the child be placed in institutional care and one suspects have their sense of self ‘normalized.’
The above link is a petition to stop this child from being put into an institute until she conforms to gender=sex ideals. If you want to read more on this article, there are two stories. Original and Updated. This child’s petition only has 10K signatures. Come on people, lets get involved. No trans child should have to be snatched from a supportive mother and locked away in a padded cell until they conform.
I really don’t think this will go over with the European Court of Human Rights (it has previously shown proper support of transgender individuals), so I really, REALLY hope that the mother moves the case to that court. Gods, I hope so. This is so goddamn awful T_T
